The Slash Pond Community Nature Reserve is a an area of woodland, wetland around a large pond, that was formerly an open cast culm (a type of coal) mine. Free access is possible via a 275m boardwalk maintained by volunteers and the Community Council
Volunteers who help with the boardwalk repairs will be paid in chocolate cake (and the satisfaction of doing something worthwhile)
Thanks to Jodie for the cake!
Karen Riggs has made a cake too.
